Exporting .fbx files from Revit to 3dsMax

.fbx Autodesk´s White paper

-Here you have a very useful link, it´s a white paper from Autodesk that explains you all about working with .fbx exported from Revit.

-Advantages of using .fbx files:
1. You won´t have blocks when exporting your model (blocks exported means bigger files).

2. All mental ray materials assigned in Revit 2009 are applied in 3dsMax Design 2009.

-Disadvantages of using .fbx files:

1. Every element exported is on layer 0
.
(if you have applied materials in Revit, can be used to select and assign materials in 3dsMax).

2. When importing the .fbx in 3dsMax the import options don´t have geometry
filters.
(every object comming in the fbx file will be imported).
3. You won´t have triangulated meshes
.
4. You can´t have your file linked to the original one in .rvt
(which is really bad).

-Ventajas de usar archivos .fbx:
1.
No hay bloques al exportar el modelo. (los bloques implican mayor peso del archivo).

my Export-> 3DS Max (FBX) is grayed out, why? I'm in Revit Struct 2009 & in a 3D view.

Dear Barry,
Try renaming the 3d view and open a new 3D view by clicking again the Default 3d View Button.
